How to install a fence post.

Step 1: Digging your hole.

Your first step is going to be digging a hole for your fence post. There are a few ways to do this.

Rocks can give you some problems if they end up being right where your hole needs to be. And getting them out can sometimes be a bit of a problem. Digging them out by hand is normally the best option. You may want to use a pry bar for some of the more difficult ones and depending on how deep they are you may want a second person for some help. At the end of the day, most of the time it is easier to just dig the hole by hand then it is with a shovel or tool.

Step 2: Concrete

Post-in-concreteAs you can see in the photo below, the concrete comes up with the post to form a point. This prevents water from pooling up and rotting the post.

In our experience home owners find it easiest to install there fence using the post panel post panel method.  By doing this you insure that all of your panels will fit accordingly in between your posts.

Step 3: Aligning posts

Insuring that your posts are all in alignment is very important. As you can see in the diagram below using string with smaller stakes to keep a straight line is a great way to insure that your posts are lined up properly. Using a stake and a small board with a temporary screw into your post to hold it upright and level works very well.
